Spring Initiation and Continued Growth
After six weeks of their associate membership, brotherhood bonding, and most importantly
being educated on the history of Greek life and Phi Kappa Theta, the associate members of this
Spring were initiated as brothers of Phi Kappa Theta. Brothers, both old and new, spent the
entire night sharing stories of brotherhood and their favorite memories within Phi Kappa Theta,
as well as their plans for the future. With an associate member class 11 strong, Phi Kap's
recruitment efforts were strong enough to overshadow even some of the most well-established
fraternities' efforts. The quality exhibited by this class and those that came before show a
promising future for the brotherhood.
Formal
For the end of February, dozens of brothers embarked alongside their dates to the great city of
Nashville for our yearly spring formal. After a long drive, with some trials and tribulations, the
brothers and their dates enjoyed all the luxuries of the Opryland in Nashville, with plenty of
excursions to Topgolf, the Gulch, the Parthenon, and plenty of amazing eateries and bars
throughout the city, particularly a great afternoon spent on the roof of Jason Aldean's restaurant
on Broadway. No trip to the home of Johnny Cash would be complete without mass purchase of
cowboy boots and hats, paired excellently with tuxes for our venue at the Tin Roof bar.
Philanthropy
We continue to strive in our efforts to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network! This
semester we intend to hold a G-Day raffle at the Tate Student Center on April 18th for a Vince
Dooley signed football helmet. For a larger philanthropic event, a cornhole tournament in
similar fashion to that of the ESPN cornhole championship will be held at the house on April
19th. We plan to host 32-64 teams with a buy in of $25, with a portion of each teams buy-in
going towards a meal ticket for each competitor as well as the cash prize for the winning team.
It is currently under consideration whether a food truck will be hired for the day or if we will be
cooking out of the kitchen, nonetheless it will be a great day to come out and support the
fraternity and CMN! If you know anyone who could provide extra corn hole boards or any sort
of support for the event please contact Charlie Cox or Nick Shook to coordinate with us.
Brother of the Month: Nick Shook
By quite a large margin, Nick Shook, one of the re-founding members of the Delta Rho chapter
is our Brother of The Month. Nick went above and beyond this month in particular with his
acceptance into UGA’s Masters in Accountancy (MAAC) program to attend after his graduation
with a BBA in May, setting an example for many of our underclassman brothers to go beyond
their undergraduate ambitions and explore post-grad education as well. On top of that, Nick has
also been working to re-establish Phi Kap’s non-profit status, making us tax exempt 501c(7)
organization. However, as our VP of Fraternal, Nick has already bore a great deal of
responsibility as a part of his regular duties to manage our fraternal finances, going beyond to
establish adjustable budgets and create permanent bookkeeping systems that will be used for
years to come. Nick also makes a point of attending every exec and committee meeting possible
to coordinate the budget amongst the differing leadership roles within the fraternity. As Nick
explains, "one of the main goals of this term was to build a template for future VPs of
fraternal… that they are able to learn from my mistakes and to not go through that trial and error
period that I had to." As a re-founding member and a VP within the fraternity, Nick has had his
finger on the pulse for every moment since Phi Kapp’s return to campus, and in this role has
offered guidance and help to countless brothers and associate members so that they may better
pursue their goals. With a GPA of 3.6 and a major GPA of 3.66, Nick also sets an example for
academic excellence. With years of experience, he also intends to seek post-grad job
opportunities over the coming months. For any potential job opportunities, please contact Nick
for his resume at
